AMP TAVOLARA Punta Coda Cavallo
The Tavolara – Punta Coda Cavallo Marine Protected Area extends over 15,000 hectares of sea and 76 kilometres of coastline, among the most spectacular areas of Sardinia. The coast, shaped by ancient granite rocks, is dotted with small coves and cliffs where Mediterranean scrub—including junipers, strawberry trees, and phyllira—reaches the sea. The true heart of the area, however, is the island system, home to a wide variety of species and landscapes: majestic Tavolara, with its vertical limestone cliffs, sits alongside the gentler granite formations of Molara, Molarotto, Isola Piana, and Isola dei Cavalli. Beneath the surface, the sea holds vast meadows of Posidonia oceanica and coralligenous sea bottoms rich in colour and biodiversity, much loved by divers and snorkelers.
